To celebrate the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, vividly demonstrate the good quality of the staff of Minmetals (loving the motherland and forging ahead in solidarity), and further encourage the staff of Minmetals to work hard and make greater success, the “Singing the Motherland and Forging ahead in Solidarity – the 3rd Chorus Competition of China Minmetals Corporation” was held in Beijing on September 28. The competition was planned, directed and performed exclusively by the staff of Minmetals. Minmetals leaders including Li Lianhua, Feng Guiquan, Li Xinli, Yao Ziping and Jiao Jian as well as nearly a thousand of employees gathered together and watched the competition.

At 2:00 pm, the chorus competition officially began, and Deputy General Manager Li Lianhua delivered a warm speech. He extended greetings to all the staff and workers on behalf of the leaders of China Minmetals Corporation. He pointed out that those throughout Minmetals are thoroughly implementing the instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on “unswervingly making state-owned enterprises stronger, better and bigger” and promoting business integration and combination by firmly grasping the opportunities of pilots of state-owned capital investment companies in the metal and mining field, so as to build “China’s best and a world-class” company. At this critical moment, by singing the motherland, we should sing the main theme of patriotism, and fulfill the political responsibility and social responsibility as a central enterprise; by singing the motherland, we should carry forward the spirit of forging ahead in solidarity and in a pioneering and innovative way and promote new development of reorganization and integration; by singing the motherland, we should express our pride and vitality as a member of Minmetals and work for a better future. In the nearly 150 minutes of competition, 17 chorus teams from all corners of the country and all walks of life demonstrated their style and sang the motherland and praised life with their most sincere feelings. With the loudest voice, they demonstrated their unity and inspired morale.

The first song was “We Walk on the Great Road” by the MCC International Team. The song expressed the great ambition of those from Minmetals who are striding forward with high spirit under the guidance of the “One Belt and One Road” initiative. Next, the team of the MCC Central Research Institute of Building and Construction dedicated a group of songs entitled “China under the Sun”. These three songs in praise of the motherland were naturally connected and ingeniously sung, extremely affectionate and touching. The team of retired cadres, whose oldest member was already 86, was full of energy and high morale. Their “Call Me by My Nursery Name” expressed their infinite love of the motherland and won the warm applause of the audience. The “Ode to Banner” by Minmetals Luzhong Mining Team recalled the ups and downs of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Party, expressing their determination to stride forward on the New Long March. The team of Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy sang the “Sister Emei”, a Hunan folk song, sunny and lively, and slightly playful, it showed a vivid picture of national unity. “By Lake Baikal”, a song by the Field Exploration Project Team, showed the romance and self-confidence of those on the frontline of resource exploration and development of Minmetals. All the staff of the Minmetals Finance Company made their debut as a unit directly under Minmetals, singing “Jiuer”, the theme song of “Red Sorghu”, deeply touching the audience. “Home is a small part of a country, and a country is composed of millions of homes”, a line of “Country” sung by the Enfi Team. With plain lyrics, the song expressed the love of the motherland and recorded the Chinese people’s attachment to the country. The team of Minmetals Mining Holdings Limited sang “Fairy Tale Huangshan”, praising the beautiful mountains and rivers of the motherland, and expressing their yearning for a better life and their confidence in “resolutely winning the battle for survival in times of difficulties”. “Song for China”, a choral song by China Tungsten and High-tech Materials Shizhuyuan Team without accompaniment, expressed the determination of Shizhuyuan to create a sustainable and replicable group, just like the Whampoa Military Academy in the mining area, as a leader in the tungsten industry and more closely united under the banner of Minmetals. NCMCC’s “Heading Towards Revival” expressed the emotional cohesion of the Chinese nation and the optimistic spirit without fear in the face of difficulties. In praise of the dedication and hard work of numerous people from Minmetals who are still working on the occasion of family union, the Minmetals International Team expressed how they were missing and graceful with a song adapted from a Guangdong folk and jazz “Homesickness”, and expressed their best wishes. Through “Tiananmen, the Square of the Sun”, the Minmetals Capital Team expressed its business philosophy of modern finance and its faith in promoting people’s livelihood and business development through finance and forging ahead. The Minmetals Development Team, the champion team of the last competition, performed the song of “the World Needs Warm Hearts”. From the bottom of their heart, they depicted a picture of love and burning passion, and recalled their shared days of hope and sunshine. The “Serenade in a Yao Mountain Village” by the Minmetals Land Team fully demonstrated the people’s lifestyle of Yao Mountain Village and their positive attitudes towards life. The profound ethnic flavor also demonstrated the strong feelings of those from Minmetals Land. The Choir of Minmetals Non-ferrous Metals, which was exclusively composed of the frontline industrial workers of Zhuzhou Smelter Group Company Limited, expressed its faithful love for Minmetals and yearning for a better life in the future with the song of “Like a Snowflake, I am from the Sky”. The finale song, Under the Sunshine, expressed the gratitude of all the workers of Zhuzhou Cemented Carbide Group Co., Ltd. to the Party for its founding of the New China. their passionate song pushed the music and their emotion to the climax. In the final stage of the competition, Duan Yun from MCC and Zhao Kun from Minmetals Development performed the solo and chorus of “I Love You China” respectively in the folk style and Bel Canto, both expressing the love of those from Minmetals for the motherland and fully reflecting the profound cultural integration between Minmetals and MCC.

Through the site assessment of the competition jury, China Tungsten and High-tech Materials Shizhuyuan Team and the team of MCC Central Research Institute of Building and Construction won the first prize, the team of retired cadres, the team of Minmetals Non-ferrous Metals, the Minmetals Capital Team and Minmetals Land won the second prize, Minmetals International, China Tungsten and High-tech Materials Shizhuyuan Team, and Minmetals Exploration & Development Team won the third prize. The team of Minmetals Finance Company and the team of Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy won the Best Creative Award, Minmetals Luzhong Mining Team and NCMCC won the Best Style Award, the Enfi Team and Minmetals Mining Team won the Best Organization Award, and MCC International won the Solidarity Award. The audience selected the top 3 winners of Best Popularity Award by WeChat: Minmetals Non-ferrous Metals, the team of retired cadres, and Minmetals International.

This competition is an important event of Minmetals in celebration of the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and also the first major corporate cultural event of Minmetals following the strategic reorganization of MCC China. It is agreed that the strong positive energy generated by the competition will inspire all the employees of Minmetals to work hard for building a “China’s first and world-class” metal and mining enterprise group by carrying forward the development concept of “cherishing limited resources and pursuing boundless development” and the business philosophy of hard work without a moment of delay and slackness.
