2021-04-02

On March 31, Mr. Guo Wenqing, China Minmetals' President and Deputy Party Group Secretary and MCC Chairman, met with Mr. Zhang Delin, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, former member of the party group of the Ministry of Natural Resources and president of Chinese Society on Economics of Geology and Mineral Resources (SEGM), who came for investigation. The two sides made an in-depth exchange of experience and suggestions on high-quality development of the geology and mineral economy.

Guo Wenqing introduced the development achievements and future plans of China Minmetals since a strategic recombination of two Fortune Global 500 companies – the former China Minmetals and the Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC). He said that during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, China Minmetals achieved the strategic goal of "quadrupling in three steps", built a solid business system featured by "four beams and eight columns", embarked on the road of high-quality development through comprehensive reform-deepening and historical problem-resolving, and became China's only "multinational mining industry giant". During the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, China Minmetals will take the mission of "becoming a main force of metal resources support, national team of metallurgical construction and operation", and strive to achieve the five-year development goal of "revenue exceeds one trillion yuan and profit doubles again".

Guo Wenqing noted that China Minmetals focuses on the development of metals & minerals and metallurgical construction as its two core businesses, and always maintains its strategic focus, which has produced remarkable outcomes. In the field of metals & minerals, China Minmetals adheres to the combination of domestic and overseas markets, and takes multiple measures to acquire resources with 42 mines at home and abroad, leading in the reserves and output of several strategic mineral resources. At the same time, it attaches great importance to resource succession, keeps track of large mining projects at home and abroad, enhances the intensity of prospecting at the deep side of existing mines, and takes the lead in the layout of seabed mineral resources exploration and development. In the field of metallurgical construction, it firmly occupies 90% and 60% of the domestic and international market share respectively, enabling it the genuine world's top national team in metallurgical construction.

Guo Wenqing extended gratitude to SEGM for its long-term support. He hoped that the two sides could further strengthen communication and exchanges and deepen cooperation in the fields of mineral economy, mining research, etc. China Minmetals is willing to contribute more wisdom and strength in promoting the high-quality development of China's metal and minerals industry.

Zhang Delin first reviewed the history of bilateral friendly cooperation. Then he introduced the development process of SEGM and the purpose of this investigation. He noted that SEGM was founded in 1981 with the aim to strengthen theoretical, policy-related and practical research in the technical and economic field of the geology and mining industry, and to provide valuable professional advice for the decision-making and deployment of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. At present, in the new development stage of China, higher requirements for the development of the geology and mining industry is necessary. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its founding, SEGM organized investigations and named China Minmetals as the first for investigation, which fully reflects the recognition of the leading position and prominent influence of China Minmetals. It is hoped that China Minmetals, based on its own practice and exploration, will share more valuable experience and put forward more reform proposals in light of the current domestic resource security situation and development environment, so as to provide references for the formulation and improvement of policies and regulations in China's metals and minerals industry.

Both sides also had extensive discussions on the topics of common concerns.
