Guo Wenqing and Wang Lin Attends Signing Ceremony of Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement between China Minmetals and China Three Gorges Corporation

On March 1, the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation framework agreement between China Minmetals and China Three Gorges Corporation (Hereinafter referred to as CTG) was held in Beijing. Mr. Guo Wenqing, China Minmetals’ President and Party Group Deputy Secretary and MCC Chairman, and Mr. Wang Lin, CTG’s Party Group Deputy Secretary and General Manager and Head of the Leading Group for the Yangtze River Protection, jointly attended and witnessed the signing ceremony before which the views on further strengthening the cooperation have been exchanged between the two sides.

 

Mr. Guo expressed his gratitude to Mr. Wang and CTG for the warm reception and the long-standing support. Guo introduced the development since the strategic recombination of the former China Minmetals and the MCC Group, two of the Fortune Global 500. He pointed out that China Minmetals Corporation is the China’s largest metals and minerals conglomerate with a very strong global presence as well as the world’s largest and most competitive player in metallurgical engineering and project operation. In 2018, China Minmetals, guided by the “quadrupling in three steps” development strategy, delivered over RMB 500 billion in operating income together with the best profit performance and the total under-management financial assets of RMB 1.86 trillion, hitting record highs.

 

Now, China Minmetals is building a business system featured by “four beams and eight columns” regarding metal mining, metallurgical construction, trade logistics, and finance and real estate. In the field of metals and mining, China Minmetals has developed and operated world-class mines such as Las Bambas Copper Mine, Dugald River Zinc Mine, and Papua New Guinea Ramu Nickel Mine. In the field of metallurgical construction, MCC serves as a pioneer and a new force in China’s steel industry, making up 90% and 60% of the share of domestic and global metallurgical construction markets, respectively. In the field of trade logistics, China Minmetals has established trade outlets in more than 60 countries and regions around the world. In the field of finance and real estate, China Minmetals has a full financial license and robust capabilities for investment and financing and resources allocation. Minmetals Land and MCC Real Estate are two of 16 real estate enterprises identified by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC). In addition, with 37 national scientific and technological innovation platforms and key laboratories, China Minmetals is a well-deserved leader in technology and innovation in central SOEs.

 

Guo stressed that CTG has a high political position and a high strategic horizon. With the development and utilization of clean energy such as hydropower and wind power, CTG has made important contributions to the country's economic and social development. In recent years, it has played an exemplary role in joint protection of the Yangtze River, taking the responsibility of the pollution prevention and control as a central enterprises. China Minmetals has advanced technology and rich experience in the fields of sewage treatment, waste incineration, soil restoration, environmental treatment and infrastructure construction. Therefore, both sides will take this agreement as an opportunity to comprehensively strengthen communication and cooperation in investing and building more projects for the benefit of the country and the people, assisting to push forward the national major strategy.

 

Mr. Wang extended a warm welcome to Mr. Guo, and expressed his affirmation and appreciation for the development achievements made by new China Minmetals after the strategic recombination. Wang introduced the development history, main business and mission tasks of CTG and pointed out that China three Gorges Group has become the world's largest hydropower development and operation enterprise, as well as the China's largest clean energy group, speeding up the establishment of a world-leading clean energy group with strong innovation and global competitiveness. In 2017, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council endowed CTG with a new mission and task in the protection of the Yangtze River. In particular, the affectionate message delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his visit to the Three Gorges Hydroelectric Power Station on April 24, 2018, has made CTG feel that the mission is arduous and the responsibility is great, which is also encouraging us to strive for higher goals.

 

Wang stressed that the transformation of China Minmetals and MCC in recent years has been active and successful, especially in the successful "going out" experience of overseas operation, which is worthy of learning and referring by CTG. In this sense, China three Gorges looks forward to strengthening the all-round exchanges and cooperation with China Minmetals. With this signing as a new starting point for cooperation, CTG will further promote the protection of the Yangtze River, expand business cooperation in various fields, and achieve mutually beneficial and win-win development.

 

During the event, Mr. Guo Wenqing and his delegation also watched the CTG integrated demonstration system for production and operation.

 

At the signing ceremony witnessed by Mr. Guo and Mr. Wang, Mr. Zhang Zhaoxiang, Deputy General Manager and Party Group Member of China Minmetals and MCC General Manager and Party Committee Secretary, and Mr. Sun Zhiyu, CTG Party Group Member and Deputy General Manager and Deputy Head of the Leading Group for the Yangtze River Protection, signed the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement on behalf of the two sides. Mr. Liu Caiming, Deputy General Manager and Party Group Member and Chief Accountant of China Minmetals was also attending the meeting and witnessing the signing.

 

Xu Junxin, Wu Jingkai, Wang Dianchang, Zhao Feng, Cheng Zhiming, Yang Hongbin, Zhang Chuanhong from CTG as well as the relevant personnel of China Minmetals’ Headquarters, MCC and directly-affiliated enterprises including Zhang Mengxing, Wang Jionghui, Yin Sisong, Xue Fei, Tian Guixiang, Yang Kui and Liu Guowei were also present at the ceremony.
