Guo Wenqing Pays Inspection Visit to China ENFI
2018-12-17

On December 11, Mr. Guo Wenqing, China Minmetals’ President and Party Group Deputy Secretary and MCC Chairman, visited China ENFI, formerly known as the China Nonferrous Engineering and Research Institute, and made clear requirements on relevant work. Guo particularly held a talk with Yu Runcang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and senior consulting expert of ENFI, and expressed his best regards for the ENFI workforce.

At the exhibition hall, Guo watched a promotional short film on the company, read aloud the “Ode to ENFI” authored by ENFI staff, and recognized what it has achieved since its founding in 1953. He inquired in detail about the company's business performance in non-coal mines, nonferrous metallurgy, water resources, energy & environment, new and high-tech materials, municipal works, culture & tourism, urban mines, and smart devices, and spoke approvingly of ENFI's vision to be a "national force in nonferrous metallurgy, leader in green development and environmental protection, innovator in emerging industries, and upholder of technology-driven, high-quality development", a strategic vision it has developed based on its own reality and the MCC development strategy. Guo added, as it celebrates its 65th founding anniversary this year, ENFI should draw experience and lessons from its past, factor into current national and industry needs as well as its position in the development blueprint of China Minmetals and the MCC, concentrate on its principal business of metallurgy, and increase efforts in sunrise industries such as water environment improvement, soil restoration, and silicon-based materials, and in R&D and talent cultivation, so as to make more breakthroughs and strides.

China ENFI is the Party building liaison point for Mr. Guo. Thus Guo placed particular emphasis on the Party building progress in the company, and raised the following requirements regarding the further implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

First, take the initiative to apply Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to the actual work. It is the latest fruit of Chinese Marxism, crystallization of practical experience and collective wisdom of the Party and the mass, an integral part of the theory system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the action guide for the Party and the people to realize great national rejuvenation. It contains profound philosophical theories and scientific methods to guide actual work. We need to keep learning, master it, and apply it and Xi's key instructions to our actual work to score more achievements.

Second, adhere to Party leadership, strengthen Party building and drive high-quality development of state-owned enterprises. State-owned enterprises are a key material and political foundation for socialism with Chinese characteristics, and a pillar force for the effective ruling of the Party. Adhering to Party leadership and strengthening Party building have been a honorable tradition of state-owned enterprises, their "root" and "soul", and have been translated into their unique advantages. China ENFI shall uphold Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the fundamental principles for work, strengthen Party leadership in all respects, and pursue development of better quality.

Third, give full play to the role of SOE executives as the Party's backbone ruling cadres in the economic sphere, and foster a highly competitive team. "It takes a good blacksmith to make steel." SOE executives are the Party's backbone ruling cadres in the economic sphere, tasked with operating and managing state-owned assets, and their value preservation and appreciation. Thus they should not only strengthen Party self-discipline, but also continue to sharpen the professional skills. China ENFI has recruited a highly competitive team including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and outstanding designers recognized at the state or industry level, built a R&D platform covering the whole industrial chain, and boasted strong R&D strength and prominent competitive edges. In the future, while continuing to recruit and train high-end specialists, it will build and improve its talent evaluation system, and cultivate interdisciplinary talents and talents who are young, dynamic and capable of leading industry development, to inherit and carry forward its technological, cultural heritage and experience.

At China Innovation Center, Guo listened to the report on the Center's overall development given by its head. The Center was founded in 2016 jointly by China ENFI and the National Super Computer Center in Tianjin at the proposal by academician Yu Runcang, the first platform dedicated to technology innovation and application in the Chinese mining industry. So far it has built a core business chain centering on mining big data, composed of Tianhe Mining Cloud, Mining Information Model (MIM), remote technical services and virtual reality technology. Guo then inquired in detail about the application of the Center's research findings to engineering projects, watched the real-time operation of the automated Chambishi copper mine in Zambia, and tried the VR mine technology. He noted, China ENFI shall strive to build itself into a "central nonferrous research and engineering institute" to serve China Minmetals' vision to become a "country-leading and world-class" metal mining corporation. To build up the international reputation and influence of Chinese brands, we need to concentrate efforts in technology innovation and the commercialization of research findings, make breakthroughs in cutting-edge industries, develop a large number of proprietary, industry-leading technologies, and match our core technology and patents with engineering practices and market demands, so that technology innovation can be commercialized in an efficient, fast way and contribute to branding. Guo also gave a pep talk to the staff, encouraging them to pursue their research dream, engage in innovation, learn from academician Yu Runcang, and become backbone talents as soon as possible.

During the above activities, Guo was accompanied by Director Wang Wenhai and Deputy Director Li Jiang of the Party and Masses Affairs Department of China Minmetals, Director Qi Dongping of the MCC Party and Masses Affairs Department, Party Secretary and Chairman Lu Zhifang and other executives of China ENFI.
