

On June 22, Mr. Guo Wenqing, China Minmetals’ President and Party Group Deputy Secretary and MCC Chairman, showed up at Nanjing Innovation & High-tech Industries (Beijing) Promotion Seminar upon invitation. At the event, Guo exchanged views with the Party and government leadership of Nanjing on how to strengthen cooperation in pursuing technology innovation.
Under the theme of “Focus on Industrial Optimization and Upgrade, and Build Nanjing into an International Capital of Innovation,” the seminar was organized to attract technology enterprises and talents from at home and abroad to Nanjing, to share development opportunities and realize win-win cooperation. In addition to Mr. Zhang Jinghua, member of the Standing Committee of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Party Secretary of Nanjing, and Mr. Yang Xuepeng, member of the Standing Committee of Nanjing Municipal Party Committee, Executive Deputy Mayor of Nanjing, and Secretary General of Nanjing Municipal Party Committee, it gathered an audience of more than 300, including executives from central SOEs, private enterprises and regional headquarters of Fortune Global 500 companies in China.
The Party and government leadership of Nanjing held a meeting with representatives of invited companies before the event. Party Secretary Zhang introduced Nanjing’s prominent strengths in developing high-tech and innovation industries, including the city’s general environment, service policy, innovation environment, and human resources. He continued to point out that the city is advancing the 121 Strategy, namely, to develop an innovation capital of global influence, two centers – one comprehensive national science center and one innovation center for high-tech industries, and a top-class innovation ecosystem, with the vision to create the most encouraging, the most suitable, and the most dynamic environment for innovation. He welcomed the businessmen present to cast their eyes on Nanjing, invest in Nanjing, and make the most of the preferential policy for investment in technology innovation, so as to jointly create a bright future for this ancient capital of China.
Then some executives shared the advantages and characteristics of their company and made suggestions on the development of the high-tech industry in Nanjing. Guo Wenqing was one of them. Guo began with a brief account of the latest development of China Minmetals after the strategic recombination. According to him, China Minmetals has RMB1.68 trillion-worth assets under management, 200,000 employees on the payroll, and is the only state-owned capital investment company in the Chinese metal ore mining industry. The company owns 36 state-level technology innovation platforms and key laboratories and ranks the fourth among central SOEs in terms of the capacity of technology innovation, accumulating distinct advantages in science and technology. What’s more, it has formed a global trade system and logistics system, obtained licenses for all financial services, and built strong overall strength. Then Guo looked back on the fruitful partnership between China Minmetals, the MCC and the Nanjing government, and thanked Nanjing municipal Party committee and people’s government for their support over the years. He said it’s exciting to learn that Nanjing is seeking industrial upgrade through technology innovation and the municipal Party committee and government are introducing and implementing related policies and creating a pro-business environment. China Minmetals will play an active role in boosting the development of the high-tech industry in Nanjing, vigorously support with concrete actions the scientific deployments of Nanjing municipal Party committee and government, make the best out of every day, and contribute to Nanjing’s development into an international capital of innovation.
The pre-seminar meeting was also attended by Chu Yonghong, Deputy Mayor of Nanjing; Zhu Xiaolin, Executive Deputy Director of the Organization Department of Nanjing Municipal Party Committee; Zhang Tai, Deputy Secretary General of Nanjing Municipal Party Committee; and Tang Jianrong, Deputy Secretary General of Nanjing Municipal People’s Government. The China Minmetals and MCC delegation to the seminar also included Liu Fuming, Shao Bo, He Fayu and Sun Jianwei, who were from the head office of China Minmetals and relevant functions of the MCC.
